Northern Quarter to be used as backdrop for next Spider-Man spin-off

Filming will begin in the Northern Quarter next week for the next Spider-Man spin-off movie, Morbius.

The NQ's iconinc streets will be the backdrop for the Marvel movie, with the sets being built as we speak.

So far, the front of a Port Street building has been transformed into the facade of a New York subway station.

Props such as fire hydrants and hot dog vans have also been seen in the nearby areas.

The council is also limiting traffic on the street, as well as in Stevenson Square until after filming has finished.
The film will star Jared Leto as Dr. Morbius, a scientist who turns himself into a vampire in order to save himself from dying of a blood disease.

This will see Leto make a jump to Marvel from DC, where he previously played The Joker in the 2016 Batman spin-off Suicide Squad.

This isn't the first time the Northern Quarter has welcomed Marvel film crews to its streets.

In 2011, Dale Street's red-brick buildings served as a 1940s New York for the first Captain America instalment.
